California State University, Chico Department of Recreation, Hospitality, and Parks Management
The Event Management students at CSU, Chico have been putting their education and talents to work planning the fourth annual Saveur event which will be held May 5, 2019 at Chapelle de L’Artiste in Paradise, California.
Sadly, the chateau, gate house, barn, bridge, and pavilion on Chapelle de L’Artiste’s stunning 20-acre property were destroyed in the November 2018 Camp Fire. Miraculously, the chapel for which the property is named survived the devastation. Saveur has always been held at Chapelle de L’Artiste, and this year is no exception. With the blessing and generosity of the owners, Cliff and Melissa Schuster, the students have taken on the challenge of designing an event with very little infrastructure.
In addition to entertainment featuring CSU, Chico music majors, guests will enjoy champagne in the still-intact wine cave and a gourmet meal prepared by award winning Chef Ann Leon on the grassy area near the lovely pond and flower beds, which are already showing signs of rebirth. Everyone involved in this endeavor see this as an opportunity to showcase Paradise’s resilience.
For decades, the Recreation, Hospitality, and Parks Management Department has educated students to serve others in the pursuit of happiness and well-being. From event specialists and recreation therapists to hotel managers and forest rangers, we have some of the most diverse graduates from CSU, Chico. Serving others bond all of these unique career paths. One of the goals of the Department is to enable students to get real-world experience. To that end, students in the “Special Event Planning and Operation” class are involved in all aspects of Saveur.
